Ways to Test Gold Ore in the Field

You can use Mohs tests in the field to determine the ore characteristics and see if that jives with what the Mohs test has to say about gold ore. Though rather rare, gold does appear in forms other than pure nugget or string. It can be mixed in with the minerals calaverite, kennerite, and silverite. On the Mohs scale, calaverite has a hardness ...

Can You Identify what is in my Pan

Can you identify? I was out prospecting with a metal detector and got a hit on a rock formation that was partially submerged. I broke off a piece of rock that even my hand metal detector would activate on. I crushed the rock and got silver metal flakes after I pan the pulverized rock. It does not seem to be rust colored.
