The type B was available in 6, 8,&10" sizes and had a cob breacker in it. It had a flywheel behind the belt pulley, at least on the early models.

By far, the 2 1/2hp Economy ran it the best. It is my belief that it was the correct engine speed along with right pulley size on the engine to power the mill. I could fill a 5 gal bucket of cracked corn in ~10 minutes. The 4hp Appleton would do a little better time wise, but the mill was running faster than I wanted.

I think the "setup" would be about the same for your buhr mill. He would start by anchoring the saw to the ground. This was done by driving wooden stakes into the ground at all four corners of the frame the saw was mounted on. The tractor was positioned on the side opposite the saw's operating side.

The mill I have looks like the one in the second pic that Bruce posted (111x). I am posting a couple of pic's of the part in question. The first one shows the part and the steel ball and the second shows the inside of the part which has a flat bottom but shows an indention where the ball was sitting, which does'nt look right to me.

The term "Burrs" or "Buhrs" refers to steel/iron plates or cones that are used to grind up a product. This is in contrast to the hammers in a hammermill. Sometimes the stones in a stone gristmill are referred to as Buhr stones. A lot of people are confused by "gristmill" and "feed grinder" and "Burr Mill".
