Cryogenic tire recycling

Liquid nitrogen is manufactured at a "liquid air" plant, where the atmospheric air we breathe is compressed by compressors, and as the air gets compressed, it is distilled into its components, which are nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and other minor gases. Nitrogen represents about 78% of air, oxygen about 20%, and argon a bit less than 1%.

Liquid Nitrogen Plants

The liquid air is distilled in a distillation column to yield pure nitrogen gas which is condensed in a condenser to yield pure liquid nitrogen at pressures up to 5 barg and with a purity ranging from a standard 99.5 % to 99.995 %. The liquid nitrogen transfers auto-matically into a storage tank. Plant Liquid production rate models (up to)

When liquid nitrogen contacts the rock, the fluid in its pores is frozen and expands. It therefore damages the pore structure as it freezes. The rocks are mainly frozen and damaged in the following three ways (Chen et al., 2004): (i) the pore water freezes, expands, and causes large compressive stress; (ii) the ice lens formed by the pore water ...

A Multifaceted Approach for Cryogenic Waste Tire Recycling

Polymer wastes, such as automotive tire rubber, are a source of long-term environmental pollution. This paper presents an approach to simplifying the rubber waste recycling process using cryogenic temperatures. The temperature of cryogenic treatment is ranged from 77 K to 280 K. Liquid nitrogen was used as a cryoagent for laboratory tests.

Samples were chilled in liquid nitrogen prior to processing, and cryogenic temperature was maintained during grinding. The mill was operated with the setting of cryogrinding time and speed. The cryogrinding time was counted by cycles (3, 6, 12 and 24) where one cycle included 15 min of precool time, 4 min grinding, and 1 min of rest.
